Review of North Canterbury game bird hunting regulations

The North Canterbury Fish and Game Council is holding its regular review of the game bird hunting regulations.

The Council is seeking feedback from hunters and the public on the following broad topics:

  • Season length of summer mallard season (currently two consecutive weekends)

  • The appropriateness of the extended August black swan season

  • Clarify aggregate bag limit on opening weekend wording specifically around shoveler bag limits

  • Clarify summer paradise shelduck hunting rules around being more than 200m from a water body and / or delay the season start by 1week.

  • Increase the daily bag limit for pukeko

The Council also encourages stakeholders to submit their views and any other regulation changes proposed in writing to North Canterbury Fish & Game before 5 pm Thursday, 20 October 2022.

You can email your submissions to [email protected]

There will also be minor wording changes to clarify some existing regulations, so they are easier for hunters to interpret.

There will be a public meeting on Wednesday, 26 October 2022, at the North Canterbury Fish and Game office from 7-8.30 pm as an opportunity for submitters to speak to their submissions and answer questions from the public.

A PDF of all submissions will be available for download before the public meeting.
