Chris Dore Fishing Report for Reel Life April 2019

Southern extensions
Well, a very wet close to our southern season here, however there's plenty more fishing to come. Our lake tributaries remain open throughout May and for those who dress warm, and don’t mind a walk, some cracking lake fish can often be found.
Right: Prime example of an autumn lake runner.
The Mataura River remains open below the Gore bridge for much of May and while mornings can fish slow, some pretty impressive hatches can occur on the calmer afternoons. Check your regulation guide however as this section does close for the opening of the duck season.
Plenty of lake edge stalking keep those in the Southern Lakes area entertained as both browns and rainbows cruise the drop-offs and river mouth areas and landlocked Chinook are a welcomed catch around the head of some lakes.
And lets not forget the larger tail waters, offering swing anglers ample opportunities with their single hand, or two hand gear for fiesty, fresh-run fish.
There's still a lot to happen once this weather passes so get out there and enjoy the remainder of our extended southern season.
