2022 Otago Junior and Novice Hunters Ballot

Ballots are open for junior and novice game bird hunters to access mai mais and ponds at Otago Fish & Game's managed wetlands for the 2022 Opening Weekend.

A junior hunter must be accompanied by an adult (one adult per junior).

Each permit is for a total of two hunters. 

Permits for the opening period from May 7-13 are limited.

Otago Fish & Game has five managed wetlands:  

* Takitakitoa (five mai-mais)

* Inch Clutha (allocated areas for two groups but no mai mais)

* Toko Mouth (one mai-mai)

* Otokia (two mai-mais/ponds)

* Waitepeka (four ponds)

The ballot closes on Monday, March 28, 2022. The draw will be held on Tuesday, March 29.

Hunters must have current game bird and firearms licences before entering the wetlands.

Managed wetland permits will also be issued for after the opening week, i.e. the remainder of the waterfowl season (permit duration May 14 to July 31). To apply for these, contact Steve Dixon 021 190 0711 / sdixon@fishandgame.org.nz
