Snake Creek restoration project begins

North Canterbury Fish & Game Officer Emily Arthur-Moore is leading a joint project with The Water & Wildlife Habitat Trust  to restore an important tributary of the Selwyn River in Canterbury.

Together with the Trust they are beginning a three year project to restore the Snake Creek, a tributary of the Selwyn River near Christchurch.

Above Right: Fish & Game and Environment Canterbury Staff electric fish a portion of the Snake Creek.

Working with local farmers, Fish & Game, Environment Canterbury, the University of Canterbury CAREX group and with a large proportion of the funding coming from the Ministry for the Environment the project aims to restore four kilometres of the Snake Creek and improve the water quality downstream at Coes Ford.

Before the project begins baseline sampling of the creek has been undertaken so that the effects of the project can be measured, you can watch a video of the testing here.
