Welcome
The Hawke’s Bay Region offers the wilderness and excitement of the Kaweka and Ruahine ranges where all its major rivers originate, before meandering through the rolling foothills and out onto flat and lush plains.
The region is blessed with great access to all the major rivers and most are no more than an hour’s drive from the main centres like Napier. Great angling is on offer in rivers ranging from the Tukituki to the Mohaka, and the region has some of the North Island’s best headwater fisheries.
Mallard, grey duck and hybrids are the most popular game birds of the region. Both these species respond well to calling and decoying and can be found on most of the region's rivers, streams, dams and lakes. The region’s scrubby river margins bordered by vineyards and orchards create ideal upland game habitat.
