I suggest that

Trout are used as a key indicator species for waterway health

Horizons set limits on nitrogen that are better than NPS (FM) standards to achieve healthy waterways and ecosystems

Horizons set meaningful limits on sediments, and bacteria so that water quality improves for all species and supports healthy ecosystems

Horizons actions support natural volumes of water in our rivers and wetlands

Changes I would like to see made to the draft visions and environmental outcomes include

The visions and environmental outcomes are more ambitious to achieve healthy waterways and ecosystems

Outcomes should focus on ecosystem health

Timeframes for delivery

I support immediate and ongoing action to measurably reduce the impacts of contaminants on waterways

I expect significant and meaningful reduction in the "critical four" contaminants within five years

I expect ongoing reductions in these contaminants (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, E. coli, Sediment) in waterways

Actions proposed to improve freshwater quality

I support real world, practical actions that lead to healthy waterways and ecosystems

I support actions that lead to clean, healthy waterways that are safe for contact recreation including fishing

I encourage actions that restore and create more wetlands in catchments managed by Horizons Regional Council

Future decision making

I expect Horizons Regional Council to prioritise and deliver healthy freshwater environments as a key outcome through their policies, planning and management responsibilities now and into the future
