Reel Life April 2024 - Hawkes Bay

It’s been a very dry warm Autumn with many rivers experiencing low flows but we are still seeing lots of good size fish being caught around the region.

Many of our rivers have recovered well with good numbers of fish being seen & caught in all our major rivers, much to our delight!

Before heading out, remember to check the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council website for up-to-date flow levels in all Hawkes Bay Rivers.

Visit lawa.org.nz for water quality readings.

Our autumn message to Hawke’s Bay anglers is to grab yourself a winter fishing licence – good value for money at $92.

If you didn’t buy a 2023-24 whole-season licence, a winter licence makes a terrific "next best" option.

It lets you fish waters that remain open through to September 30, anywhere in the country except Taupo click here to see where you can fish through winter.

Fishing Courses

We had a great turnout for our first Trout Teaser event which was aimed at those who haven’t tried Trout fishing before but are interested to find out what it’s all about.

Attendees worked their way through a range of workshops that provided some insight into what’s involved and hopefully sparked interest in the sport.

A big thanks to the volunteers who made the day possible and I think the members from the Napier Anglers Club may have recruited some new members.

We are also working on expanding into more comprehensive courses and have so far filled a Students after school course and the Women’s course is filling fast after being launched this week.

To find out more about this one click here We’re also working on a general beginners course and another Kids' fishing day, so watch our Facebook page for more info: https://www.facebook.com/HBFishandGame/

Licence Holder Survey

Keep an eye on your inbox for our anglers survey coming out soon.

There’s also a wee incentive for those who would like to participate and the results will be very beneficial for us in planning for next season and beyond.
