Events including childrens' fishing days are held by Fish & Game across New Zealand to support and encourage fishing participation. See below for current event information.

North Island 

Northland

Get set for Kai Iwi Fishing Competition!

The tentative dates for the competition are July the 6th and 7th .  Mark your calendars and plan for an enjoyable weekend of friendly competition.

Auckland/Waikato

Come and join Come and join the Hamilton Anglers Club and Fish & Game Waikato for a free fishing day for kids under the age of 12.

Sunday March 31st, Lake Te Koutou, Cambridge, 9am to mid-day.

The target species is perch weighing about 1/2lb

They can be caught by most methods including spin, fly and bait. Some equipment will be provided but please bring your own.

A fresh water fishing licence is required which is issued free to kids under the age of 12. All kids must have parental supervision.

Lake Arapuni Fishing Contest 

This competition at the popular Waikato trout fishing lake will be held on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 16th and 17th.

Run by the Te Awamutu Fish & Game Association, the contest starts at 6am on Saturday, with adult and junior sections, and prizes including for the heaviest rainbow, brown and rudd.

A prize giving will be held at 2.30pm on the Sunday.

The contest will include a sausage sizzle, spot prizes and lucky ticket draw.

This fun opportunity is run by the Rotorua Anglers Association who show children six to 14 years of age how to catch a fish.

South Island

Waimakariri Salmon Anglers Competition, Saturday, March 23rd .

Entry forms are available at most tackle retail stores, or online at http://www.nzsalmonanglers.co.nz/

Lots of prizes - adult entry fee $30, NZ Salmon Anglers Association Members $25.

Rangers Competition at Kairaki Beach, Kaiapoi, Canterbury, April 8th (backup date 22nd April). Anglers can register on the day at the weigh station.
