Stunning Start to the Season!
The lower North Island has been blessed with stunning weather and fishing conditions for the start of the season.
Most weekends have seen settled weather with clear sunny skies, and with the exception of some lower river reaches the water was been in excellent shape.
Anglers are already commenting about the condition of the trout – healthy fish early in the season indicate they’ve had a relatively easy winter and that bodes well for the season ahead.
We’ve seen some lovely fish from the Hutt and Rangitikei, and some stonker browns from the Ruamahanga! There are also good numbers of trout around, with anglers saying fish are congregating in schools in the lower reaches of the Kapiti area, likely chasing whitebait.
Wellington Fish & Game indicated that these rivers were fishing extremely well last season and that if we had a calm winter they could be even better for 2024-25 – this appears to have come to fruition.
We’re hoping the fine run of early-season weather will continue. Grab your licence and get into the action.
