Kai Iwi lakes going off!
Fishing at the lakes is pretty hot at the moment, we have had reports about anglers catching their limit within an hour.
On a recent visit we had landed a small rainbow within five minutes!
Not a bad day at the office!
The Manuka trees are flowering around the lake edges and attracting honey bees therefore some of these end up in the water.
While we were fishing, trout were feeding on these bees less than four metres away, right in front of us.
The water level is high and there is no one else around.
What are you waiting for?
Dry fly’s and lures are all working well.
A spinning rod with a trout jig set up can either be fished from shore or boat/kayak and is really effective at getting down deep to the fish.
All our rivers open again on the 1st October 2019.
New season licences can be purchased online from our website, or from our office and most sport shops in the North.
There are many fishing licence options to suit the individual and families.
Children under 12 are still free and juniors are $27.
Whole season family licences are the best value allowing two adults and up to four children/grandchildren under the age of 18 to fish for the entire season.
These licences can also be used anywhere in New Zealand except the Lake Taupo fishery which is managed by the Department of Conservation.
For more information about the new season licences check out our website or Facebook page.
