Target Tutira for trout in ‘top shape’
As the days shorten and you think about lighting the fire, Lake Tutira becomes the destination of choice for many Hawke’s Bay anglers.
Top right: Hefty fish from the kids fish out day!
The lake is holding good numbers of large, well-conditioned trout at present, sure to make a popular addition to any winter meal.
Before heading out, remember to check the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council website for up-to-date flow levels in all Hawkes Bay Rivers. Visit lawa.org.nz for water quality readings.
Our autumn message to Hawke’s Bay anglers is grab yourself a winter fishing licence – good value for money at $78.
If you didn’t buy a 2018-2019 whole season licence, a winter licence makes a terrific "next best" option.
It lets you fish fish waters that remain open through to September 30, anywhere in the country except Taupo – click here
The timing is right; with higher flows and less weed in the rivers, the start of the winter season can offer some great fishing opportunities.
Ranging far & wide
Hawke’s Bay Fish and Game staff will be focusing on ranging in some of our harder to reach fisheries over the coming months.
Please remember to have your licence with you.
Dozens turn out for kids' fishing
Hawke’s Bay Fish and Game staff would like to extend a big thanks (!) to all the volunteers, kids and parents who made the kids fish out day a success this year.
A total of 43 children attended the day and all caught a trout in our fish-out pond.
The biggest fish of the day was caught by a first time angler and weighed in at a whopping 5lbs!
Check out Hawke’s Bay Today’s video of the event on our Facebook page.
Hastings Anglers Club are running a novice fly fishing course at the Game Farm over five weeks which continues in May.
The course includes knot tying, casting tuition and time on local rivers.
If you are interested in future courses, please register your interest with Christine at the Hawkes Bay Fish and Game office. Phone 06-8442460 or email hawkesbay@fishandgame.org.nz
