Central South Island Fish & Game held their annual Kids Salmon Fishing Day at Loch Cameron, Twizel on Saturday November 17.
Following a generous donation of 400 salmon from Local Twizel salmon farm operators, Mt Cook Alpine Salmon Ltd the event was held on a fantastic day.
Above Right: Jack Tilson of Lincoln and his salmon.
Children from all over the South Island attended and 178 children aged between 3 and 11 were entered in the prize draw.
Around 40 salmon were successfully landed, cleaned and put on ice for a dinner to remember.
There were also plenty of “the one that got away” stories too, which goes some way to teaching the kids that fishing is a challenge and a skill to master and every fish landed must be cherished.
Some children caught their fish ever, and many children were back to have another go after enjoying the event in 2017.
The event was supported by local businesses: Jakes Hardware, Southern Alps Outdoors and Meridian Energy who along with Fish & Game provided dozens of spots prizes that will be used on future fishing trips by the children.
Lady Bird Hill, Downer and the Twizel Development and Promotion Association (TDPA) also helped with the event.
There are still plenty of salmon available in Loch Cameron for anglers of all ages that hold a sports fishing licence. Please refer to the 2018-2019 sports fishing regulation guide before fishing at Loch Cameron.
