Reel Life November 2021

With Labour Weekend a couple of days away, now's the time to maximise the holiday's opportunity for an extra day's fishing.
With the temperatures warming up, the fish are becoming more active, and it's a great time of the year to go for a fish.
Check out the links to the regional pages above for great tips and info on where to go fishing near you.
An excellent tip from Wellington Fish & Game Officer/Communications Officer Hamish Carnachan is to download the Walking Access Commission's new pocket edition app; it works offline and provides you with the info on how to access public land for fishing and hunting; click here to download the app.
November also heralds the opening of our backcountry and high-country fisheries in the South Island. Some regions open on November 1; others open on the first Saturday in November. So, remember to check your regulations guide for the waterway you intend to fish; you can download a copy here.
If you are looking for a bit of variety in your angling, the regulations guide also offers you great hints for places to go fishing; don't be afraid to try somewhere more remote or different from where you usually go.
While you're thinking about going fishing, there's a great article from Kea Outdoors founder Matt Butler on mentoring new anglers; click here to check it out and don't be afraid to introduce someone new to fishing.
As always, when moving between waterways, we remind you to Check, Clean and Dry your gear so we can stop the spread of any aquatic pests who might hitch a ride on your gear.
The result for the Fish and Game Council elections are now available here.
