Wellington Reel Life December 2017
Rain arrives just in time

After the best start to the season in many years, the big dry started to put significant pressure on the fisheries and fishing.
Trout were all but shutting down, refusing to eat during the day – a sure sign they were under stress from high water temperatures and low flows.
Thankfully we’ve just had a good burst of rain across much of the region. This has sparked the fish into furious action and should tide the fisheries over nicely until the next fresh.
There’s still plenty of action, as Andrew Harding recently found out in the backcountry – check out the clip here
Don’t miss out on the action
If that isn’t enough to spure you into action over the holidays then perhaps this will…
Check out this short video to see how good the fishing is in the lower North Island.
Haven’t got you licence? Haven’t been out yet? Well, you’re missing out on some stunning angling action…
Angling bounty within easy reach
One of the great things about the Wellington Fish & Game region is the wealth of world-class angling resources within such easy reach.

With the fantastic Hutt River right on the doorstep, why not take the kids fishing for the ultimate school holiday boredom buster.
Also, if you’re heading on the road to get to you summer holiday destination, break the trip up by stopping to fish any of the numerous waterways you’ll cross in transit.
Good fishing can be right off SH1 and SH2 – where else in the world is there this easy access to such a great resource?
Take a break, cast a line – it’ll make the trip that much more pleasant!
