Freshwater fishing in Hawke's Bay

The region offers a variety of fishing opportunities from the Tukituki to the Mohaka River. The region has some of the North Island's best headwater fisheries. Lake fishing is limited to Lake Tutira (the only substantial lake fishery in the region).

This variety and easy access for angling ensures opportunity is plentiful, increasing your chances of finding that ‘hot-spot’ or ‘secret spot.’

Fishing headwaters of rivers such as the Mohaka and Ngaruroro provides some spectacular experiences,  given the scenery and the wildlife that is regularly encountered in such remote areas. These areas provide a great opportunity for families that want to experience what the New Zealand back country has to offer. To find out more about fishing in the region browse through the links to the left, or visit our regional office.

Note on Lake Tutira: When fishing, please stay clear of any monitoring buoys to avoid snagging the anchor lines and causing damage to their monitoring capabilities.
