Children's chance to catch a rainbow trout!

The next children's fish-out day will be held at the Ngongotaha hatchery, near Rotorua, on Sunday, August 2nd, 2020.

Children aged from six to 14 years-old will be able to catch a rainbow trout at the hatchery’s specially designed fish-out pond.

For many children, this will be their first trout fishing experience and with expert tuition from members of the Rotorua Anglers Association, they’re guaranteed to catch a trout that can be taken home for dinner, says Fish & Game Officer Mark Sherburn.

Tagged trout from the pond also win a spin rod and reel combo from sponsor Kilwell.

“These events really are a wonderful experience for young children,” Mark Sherburn says.

“For most of the children it's their first fish. It's very exciting and leaves them on a real high, grinning from ear to ear.”

Childrens’ fishing days will be held on August 2nd and September 6th this year.

Mr Sherburn stresses that children need to be pre-booked to guarantee a spot at these popular events but no experience or fishing gear is needed.

A $5 donation is requested to help fund the event.

The children's fish outs have been run for many years now, and Fish & Game is hugely grateful to the Rotorua Anglers Association and local businesses Rainbow Springs and Kilwell for their continued support.
