With the game bird hunting season now half way through, hunters in many regions are reporting duck numbers are up after a good breeding season.
The better numbers have resulted in a subsequent improvement in the number of duck dinners that hunters have been able to serve to their families and friends.
For many North Island licence holders, the season for mallard, grey and shoveller ducks closed in June in Auckland/Waikato, Eastern and Hawkes Bay regions.
Taranaki and Wellington close on July 3, leaving Northland the only North Island region open to duck hunters for the rest of the month.
