Awesome weekend in the whangamarino. Ducks in great condition. Limits by 10.30 Saturday. Vince and Marty and beau.
1 at duck and I hade a band
The late opening and fog didn't dissapoint in the Auckland fish and game block. Limits by 10.30am Saturday. Best opening we have had. One that's going to be hard to beat. A pic of some of the ducks harvested during the long weekend in by us 3.
Tail on this cockbird was 40 bars. Bird was 91cm from beak to tail. Biggest cockbird my father has seen in 50+ years of hunting. Shot on the Rangitikei River opening weekend

It was the end of mallard season that weekend, the start of the season was pretty quiet so was good to put a few in the bag along with some parries!

This was a banded mallard drake and it was my first ever banded duck in my whole life I’m glad to have one banded duck on the board.

It’s a pure healthy Mallard drake with some cool green and blue feathers on its head and it has a band around its leg.
Lake Ellesmere with a southerly beginning to brew up. Shooter in the Maimai is Ray Naughton. When the southerly hit later that morning the birds came in great numbers but were a real challenge to shoot!
Limits opening day 2017
Was invited to shoot with some great mates at kituna wetland at their Mai mai bag out being from northern Australia was great to wade the water with out being eaten by crocodiles amazing hunting syterm you have in NZ I wish we had the same support here in Australia see you again in 2018
First Wairarapa hunt of the season and my first dog retrieved the two drakes for me which was nice. It is his second season but he did not get much work last season.

Whats special about this photo is that it's Sunday afternoon, My brother in law Rob Beard and I have shot our limit of ducks. But what makes this so special, is the fact that we decided to go Sub gauge this year, Thats right 410g. People said we must of been crazy or Quack shots. lol. I have been shooting for 21 years and have patiently waited to bag a banded bird. The first week of the 2013 season has seen me bag a banded mallard and a banded pheasant - see pic. 35 years ago I saw a mallard hen trying to defend her ducklings from a stoat. I didn't have a gun on me so I ran home as fast as I could, (I remember my lungs were on fire), got a shotgun and ran back but it had gone. 35 years afterwards, another stoat, (it's great-great grandson!), popped up in exactly the same place by the same river. I whispered to my dog to freeze, before he saw it and chased it, and I shot it at about 5m with the Drilling shown. Vengeance at last. Photo from John Dyer
