INVITATION - BANDING 2022

Auckland Waikato Fish & Game Council Mallard/Grey Duck Banding Schedule 2022

This is an invitation for volunteers to help with the banding of birds.

You MUST be double-jabbed with a Covid passport & masks (except children) to come onsite.

Sometimes a banding weekend may be delayed or even shifted if bird numbers have yet to build. Please RSVP your intentions to be sure you’re in the loop so we can update you.

Covid restriction changes. Please RSVP us if you are intending to come along so we can update you on any new Covid-19 changes, (alert levels, travel restrictions), that might affect our banding sites.

  • Start: 8:00am on weekdays and Saturdays. 8:30am on Sundays.
  • Kids very welcome if supervised. In fact, lots of little jobs for them to do and a posted certificate afterwards, (their name & mailing address required).
  • Ducks have blunt bills so kids will come to no harm. In fact, it can be quite an experience handling live birds.
  • Supporting letter to DoC Banding Office confirming attendance for those wanting DoC banding certification.
  • For maps to any of these sites, just email John Dyer.
  • An RSVP will assist our planning.
  • Usually, we go ahead whatever the weather. But if it is called off for some reason, we can’t tell you if we aren’t expecting you.
  • Bring sunscreen, a raincoat, water, snacks and hat.
  • Hand-wash will be available.
  • Choose a site/s that best suits you.

For location map/s email jdyer@fishandgame.org.nz or phone 0210 243 0015.

OPENING WEEKEND - Take a mate Hunting - for only $4

Do you have a mate, relative, friend, co-worker or know somebody who is keen to give duck hunting a go, but doesn’t want to pay the full cost of a licence? If so, on a strictly first-come-first-served basis, limited to the first 100 hunters who email or select here to fill in form with their 2022 Game bird licence number, we will let you take your mate hunting on opening weekend for the $4 cost of the Habitat Stamp which is affixed to the licence – which as you will recall, is used solely to create, protect and restore wetland habitat.

The offer is strictly limited to those people (i.e. the mate) who have not purchased a licence before (and we have extensive database records on our computer going back for the last decade to check this) .The offer applies only to opening weekend – recipients of the mate’s licence must be accompanied by a whole season licence holder – and it only applies to the Auckland/Waikato Fish & Game region. The mate must of course comply with the Game Bird Hunting Regulations. There has never been a better opportunity to introduce your friend, spouse, son or daughter to game bird hunting.
