Fishing News index> January 2008
As can be expected most families will have spent time together to celebrate xmas and the new year, and the holiday period will have given most a much needed rest from the rigours of 2007.
The summer holiday period is a great time to explore and enjoy recreational activities especially as time is at a premium during the year. Anglers usually visit their favourite fishing possie or try a new destination in search of peace, relaxation and of course a chance at landing a fish.
For the gamebird hunter the summer break usually means an opportunity to organise and work on their hunting stand or even find a new pond. Whatever your undertaking is, information is the key and often people don’t take the time to familiarise with the activity at hand. Anglers can benefit from regionally produced access pamphlets that explain destinations and techniques while hunters can benefit from stand construction guides and wetland creation material which is also readily available from regional offices.
Today’s trend towards information gathering is about time relativity hence the Internet. Fast-uninterrupted access to a continuous flow of cyber space material has certainly superseded peoples urge to read paper information.
If the PC is your choice then access to information is easy. Fish & Game have embraced this information trend and are continually revamping and initiating updated web sites. The need to find information is alive and well so take advantage of avenues on offer and expand your fortunes.
Fishing in the Region
The summer holiday period is a relatively difficult time of the year to collate and receive angler feedback.
As a result our office has very little to offer web site readers for fishing prospects.
Weatherwise the forecast has been varied with most rivers and streams receiving varied amounts of rainfall. Discolouration of angling water is a real downer for those wanting to sight fish especially in headwater areas. Late January/February will certainly see calmer hotter more settled weather, so fingers crossed, its on the way.
Angler enquiry has been unusually higher than normal particularly from those wanting to fish for the first time or those visiting from other regions. Good news all round for future angling continuity. Next months report should give us a better insight into angling prospects and achievements from the Christmas break.
