LAKE ANIWHENUA & RANGITAIKI RIVER SYSTEM
On the lake, nymphs on a long leader, drifted in the current flow and with a jerky retrieve has been producing good results.
The shoreline anglers, stalking their prey are doing equally as well. Sight fishing is good with the weed having been suppressed over the winter.
A little bit of time is involved with the lake fishing as it’s not been fishing consistent. Sometimes it comes on really good in the morning and then other times it doesn’t fire until the afternoon.
There are plenty of Damsals on the lake and even a few Cicadas already showing up as well as Brown Beetles.
The Rangitaiki & Whirinaki rivers are both fishing good. There are lots of different sized fish in the river at the moment. Normally we don’t see such a variety.
There hasn’t been much rising on the rivers of late, but it’s well worth drifting a Cicada pattern along the slow water edges. Obviously, this will change to the faster water as the summer progresses.
