Eastern Rivers and Waikaremoana May 14th
By Murray Ferris
Same old same old, no rain low rivers and no sign of any significant changes in the near future. All the rivers and lake Waikaremoana are extremely low.
The fishing is hard in the main due to the conditions but as the temperature continues to drop there is less fly life on the wing and as we approach the dead of winter there will be a bit of a lull while the fish spawn.
With less than 2 months left of this season it is unlikely bthat the conditions will be significantly different with long term forecasts predicting dry cold weather for the next few months.
On the bright side however fish caught are in magnificent order and in great fighting trim. A recent visit to the Ruakituri by a couple warty old anglers produced a very nice bag of good fish, even by one angler notorious for his catching of very small fish so they must be extremely co-operative.
There are good reports from some anglers at the lake, one party there for a week recently landed 72 fish, not bad in my book.
Remember the didymo threat. Clean dry and treat
