Hunting NZ> Kiwi Aversion Dog Training

Department of Conservation Kiwi Aversion Dog Training Days

The Department of Conservation is running kiwi aversion dog training days for hunters in the wider Auckland area.

This is the first time this training has been offered in this part of the country.
Dogs that undergo this training will then be certified and eligible to enter, with hunting permits, scenic reserves, forest parks, and conservation areas.  All hunting dogs entering such areas in the East Coast and Hawkes Bay conservancy require certification.

The training is free, takes around 10-15 minutes per dog, and is part of a research project commissioned by the Department of Conservation to evaluate the dog training process. Participants will have to return with their dogs in six months time and again a year later for re evaluation in order for their certificate to remain valid.
The training days will be held on Sat 21 July, and Sun 22 July, 2007 with further training days on Sat 28 July and Sun 29 July 2007.

Any hunter interested in undergoing the training can contact:
